  • Oh Snap!

I’ve decided I want another camera. Yes… I already have the Nikon Coolpix but I would like something smaller and faster with a slightly easier learning curve. If I had to rate myself pertaining to the skill of photography I would give myself a 3 out of 10. I have good ideas, vision and the willingness to learn more about the art. Okay… a 4.2 ^_^

I’m trying to decide from the list below but if you know something better please share.

Your comments/suggestions would be most appreciated ^_^

    Sony NEX-5 or 7

Has the biggest scensor in a compact frame but also would come with a higher learning curve. Most of what I’ve read indicates it is the best camera. Just not for beginners…

    Nikon V1 / J1

Nikon’s attempt at the compact camera market. Although it has the smallest image sensor, pixel count and no touch screen/rotatable LCD screen is has the newest and most innovative features including the ability to shoot 60 frames per second!

     Olympus PEN E-P3

Pretty much the best of both worlds. Some innovation with an image sensor and features that compate with all the others. To be noted this camera’s little brother (PEN E-P1) was voted the best camera for beginners in the compact system camera class in 2010/11.

If I make a decision I’ll be sure to let the world know ^_^

  • If you want to get really artistic and pursue photography, I would recommend saving up and buying a DSLR like a Nikon D-series or a Canon Rebel or E series. It has a very high amount of learning, but once you get through it, you’ll get great top notch quality pictures and the expertise with using those kind of cameras. I have a Nikon D50 myself and always use it to shoot things for my portfolio or anything that requires high amount of attention to detail.

  • I’m not sure which one I’d pick. They all sound like pretty good cameras.

  • Good luck picking the right one for you.

  • i like the olympus with a pancake lens great
for street photograph wide angles can rly capture a story for your awesome life
and its not to bulky and heavy like a DSLR =) hope you become great at whatever it is you want to do

  • Oh my, the design of the first camera is awesome!<3 Well, I have a thing for polaroid cameras. they reminds me of old things which I love, and the feeling you get when your camera immediately prints out your photo is amazing :D !<3 – Right now I have a sony DSLR, which is alright for beginners :) . And Sony is as good as Nikon or Canon. We have a camera from all 3 brands, and I will def. recommend the Sony for beginners :) . If you want a really good camera, save some money and buy a Canon. They are really the best cameras but they are NOT friendly for beginners, and before you get a good Canon camera that can take really good photos it needs to be those over 1.776,92 dollars. I don’t know about the last camera, two of my friends have had olympus cameras, and they just sucked, but maybe my two friends were just unlucky with the cameras. Hope you will find a good one :) ! And sorry for the long comment<3 Much love<3

  • Your post was most informative. I am looking at picking up a very simple camera to take pics at my 50+ HS reunion and have no clue what is easy to use and takes great pics. I am so electronically challenged it isn’t even funny.  Oh for the old Polaroid days.  *soft laugh…  Thank you for the explanations.

  • I want a new camera very badly too, but I think a laptop will come first.

  • @laytexduckie - I appreciate the advice bro. I think I’ma go with Olympus PEN E-PL3. It’s stats compete with a lot of the “novice” DSLRs with alot smaller body and since it’s mirrorless they’re silent for the most part.

    @Shining_Garnet @nov_way -  - I think I’ll go with Olympus but i’m not buying until July so I’ll let you know ^_^

@ray_atkins - Thank you kind sir. I’ll be as great as the guy sitting next to me indeed ^_^

@Be_happy_Be_you - Thanks for the advice Love. i’m still checking out Sony’s lineup but they have a lot less selections when it comes to lenses >_<

@MzSilver - I’m glad I could help :) if you just need a point and shoot that’s affordable Sony’s Powershot’s are pretty good. Or you can just use Instagram if you have it on your phone lol ^_^

@lonelywanderer2 - A Camera and Laptop will be my “deployment” gifts to myself (excluding a month in Thailand ^_^) I think I’ll get a 13′ Macbook for myself. I hope you find what your looking for!

  • @diditdreaming - Glad you came to a decision. Let me know when you get it and test it out! I wanna see the shots!

  • @laytexduckie - Most definitly. I’ll also give you my friend code for DS (unless you literally catch poke’mon and don’t have time for childish games lol)

  • @diditdreaming - Hah. The only problem is I do not own a DS. I simply catch my Pokemons via emulator on my Droid. And with my bare hands…

  • No problem<3 Yeah that is right, it sucks a little. Let us know when you have bought one! You need to put up some photos on here :p. Have a great day, much love<3
